The Protective Schools program
was designed and prepared by Dr. Kris Bosworth in collaboration
with Tucson LINKS, a Safe Schools/Healthy Students initiative,
and the Smith Initiatives for Prevention and Education at the University
of Arizona College of Education.
Everyday interactions and activities at school can make a tremendous
differents in students' academic and social success. A school
can be a powerful protective influence in the lives of its students,
providing a positive environment that supports student academic
and social growth. The Protective Schools Model identifies ten
characteristics of schools shown to link prevention and resiliency
factors with academic success.
The Protective Schools model was designed to help you enhance
the protective nature of your school and target opportunities to
strengthen your school. You are encouraged to use the Protective
Schools as a basis to begin a conversation in your school and community
about school improvement strategies.
